Where is Horley?
It is located on the Surrey/Sussex Border and has expanded considerably over the past 50 years with the development of Gatwick Airport.
What is the purpose of a Lions Club?
Lions Clubs have the motto “We Serve” and strive to “raise funds for charities and good causes”
The Horley Lions Club
Was formed in 1963 catering for the needs of the fast expanding town and started with a membership of 15.
It has now stabilised with approximately 30 members of varying ages and walks of life, but all with the same commitment to help those less fortunate than themselves.
With the increase in the number of requests for assistance from people in the Redhill and Reigate districts we have extending our fundraising and welfare activities to include them and the surrounding villages.
In common with many other Clubs we have two meetings a month
1. The business meeting when the current fundraising and welfare issues are resolved with an atmosphere which is relaxed, with a good deal of humour.
2. The dinner meeting with the members’ partners which takes place at various venues around the area.
There are also various social events during the year.
Twinning
The club has been twinned with the Bad Nauheim Lions Club in Germany since 1987 and an annual weekend “get together” is organised. (Totally paid for by the members of-course).
Membership
We are not a secret society but as with all Lions Clubs, Membership is by invitation. If you are interested in joining why not contact us and we will explain the operation of Lions and invite you to attend one of our meetings.
How can you help?
If you do not feel that you are able to join us but would be willing to “give us a hand” at our events please drop us an e-mail to Activities
